My goals for My Local Wool are:

  • To give shepherds the ability sell their fleeces and local wool products directly to artisans with zero fees or commissions.

  • To help indie dyers source local wool mill-spun yarns and fibers to dye and re-sell to their customers.

  • To encourage knitters and crocheters to use more locally grown yarn in their projects and patterns.

  • To network yarn shops with local spinners and indie dyers to include more locally sourced wool products in their inventory.

  • To help indie dyers and artisans find mills to create their own custom mill-spun yarns and fiber blends with fleeces they source from local farms.

  • To make it easy to find local fiber farms near you so you can visit on shearing days, meet the shepherd, and buy directly from the farm.

  • To cultivate a warm, open, welcoming community free from political agenda.

Hello! My name is Ashley Martineau and I have been spinning yarn since 2003. I married my college sweetheart and we have three children.

I am the author of the book Spinning and Dyeing Yarn.

I design spinning wheels with Mike Pauly of SpinOlution.

I coordinate Spin Her Free - the annual spinner's event to end human trafficking.

I teach people how to spin freeform art yarn on my YouTube channel.

And I thought it would be fun to create an online marketplace for the fiber community to buy/sell local wool.
